Letting That Be As It Is
The air pollution predominantly driven by dust particularly in areas where the broken metal surface of Chitral-Booni road was removed continues to be a matter of concern and urgency. For how long can we let this as it is? In fact, this invisibly costs huge to humans and our entire ecosystem.
For the last two years, people who have their homes beside the road and their farmlands where they cultivate a variety of crops in seasons have been badly affected from the dust emanating from the road. The variety of plants are also heavily burdened with filtering the air we breathe. Most importantly, species, which are part of our ecosystem, have also been affected by the dust to the extent that we can’t imagine and know about it.
People who have allergies and asthma they face more severe health complications with every passing day resulting from the air pollution. The future generation in hundreds who study in vocational training center, government colleges (for boys and girls), government primary school and FC school across the road at Junalikoch are exposed to the perpetual dust flow in their classrooms, and their tender lungs receiving the particulate matter during school timing. And the parents of these students, particularly mothers, have the immense burden to clean their children’s uniforms every second day for school.
Our glaciers are already retreating and the snowpacks we rely on for water in these mountainous areas have been exposed to the particulate matter bouncing up to the air with every passing day. Humans and the health of the species, plants and crops have been badly affected by this phenomenon.
Can we leave everything exposed to unmitigated air pollution in the area? Indeed not.
To keep the health of our entire ecosystem protected from the adverse impact of the air pollution in Chitral-Booni road, it needs realization and the delayed construction work has to be done on war footing and asphalting the segment of road from Reshun to Booni. This very time demands immediate action from the government to expedite work on the road construction and black topping sooner to protect human health and the health of our entire ecosystem from degradation.
