CHITRAL: As a result of the fresh spell of snowfall in the higher altitude of Chitral and the resultant cold waves, the demand of oak wood for fuel has reportedly increased in the market.
The high prices and unavailability of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and electricity, the oak extracted from the forests of southern forests of Chitral is said to be the only source of heating and cooking for the residents of Chitral.
A vendor of oak wood in Booni Road, Ahmed Khan told Chitral Times n that sale of oak wood rises to its peak in the January and drops to the half of its volume by the month of March but the harsh climatic condition and the recent snowfall did not allow the demand to fall but it has slightly surged.
He said that due to the sudden rise in the demand of oak wood due to snowfall, the wood has ran short in the stocks of the city but the commodity was being replenished to make up the deficiency.
