    Chitral District so far free from Coronavirus……..Deputy Commissioner Naved Ahmad

    CHITRAL: Deputy Commissioner Chitral Naveed Ahmed has said that Chitral was so far free from coronavirus but the residents of Chitral coming from the virus-infected areas of down country including the members of Tablighi Jamaat returning from Raiwand posed a serious threat to the area.

    Addressing a press conference flanked by district police officer Waseem Riaz Khan here on Sunday, he said that every effort was being made to ward off the danger from Chitral in which district administration enjoyed full support of police and Chitral Scouts.

    He said that strict vigilance was being kept on the passengers entering the district through Lowari tunnel and the persons bearing symptoms of COVID-19 were being quarantined to keep them under observation for fourteen days and presently 94 persons were in the quarantines set up at Chitral city and Drosh.

    He said that the testing kits for coronvirus have been received by the health department and now no suspected patient will be required to be sent to Peshawar for test as practiced in the past two weeks.

    He said that there was no shortage of food items and other necessities of daily life in Chitral while the wheat stock present in the warehouses of the government were sufficient enough to feed the people for forty days even if no replenishment is made.

    DPO Waseem Riaz said that in league with district administration and Chitral Scouts, police was busy in disseminating awareness among the people in every nook and corner of Chitral which has produced positive results as the civil society has started all possible cooperation in this regard.

    He said that to restrict the movement of the people, section 144 has been promulgated in the district which is being adhered to by the public at large but the those defying it are being taken to task as it has arrested more than 100 persons.

    He said that the district police was quite stringently implementing the directions of the government to minimize the sphere of mobility of the people which was highly desirable to avoid the deadly virus.

    The district health officer Dr. Haiderul Mulk said that there was no confirmed case of COVID-19 so far and there was no danger of local transmission of the virus.

    He said that more than 500 lady health workers in every union council of the district were carrying the surveillance work against COVID-19 who by their presence in every small village, dashed to report about the person who developed any one symptom of the disease and rapid response teams approached them instantly.

    Conveying the message of Ali Zafar, the commandant of Chitral Task Force, Major Usman said that like the other parts of the country, Pak Army was busy in fighting to keep the deadly virus away from the district in which the cooperation of the people was inevitable.

    Those who were in attendance included Additional DC Hayat Shah, AC Chitral Abdul Wali Khan, AC (Revenue) Shahzad Ahmed, AAC Drosh Abdul Haq and settlement officer Fidaul Karim.
