KURAGH: A grand program of “Global No Tobacco Day” was organized at GHS Charun with collaborative efforts of Aga Khan Higher Secondary School Kuragh and Government High School Charun. The program was attended by people from various walks of life, including teachers and students of both the schools, and local dignitaries. Students of GHS Charun compered the program.
The program formally started at 9 am with recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by a 9 grader from GHS Charun. A student of grade 9 from AKHSS Kuragh recited Na’t Sharif. The Headmaster of GHS Charun, Mr Naeemur Rehman welcomed the participants and shared the objectives of the program. Students from both schools delivered thought-provoking speeches on the harmful effects of drugs on physical, socio-economic and moral life of man. They also briefed the audience on how to quit the killer drugs and be free from them.
A comprehensive presentation was given by Ms Samina Mehmood, Student Counseller AKHSS, on the subject of Harmful Effects of Smoking. She shared valuable information about connection of smoking with various fatal diseases like angina and other heart diseases, asthma, cancer of mouth, lung and liver, and various social and economic issues. She told the students that smoking brings unpleasant change in students’ academic life such as difficulty in learning and retaining information, going astray from right moral path, and thus it brings destruction to their otherwise healthy life. By spending wealth on basic needs of life such as health, education, and saving or investing money in business, we can live a better, honorable and satisfied life. We can easily avoid harmful drugs by engaging in such healthy and creative activities as sports, exercise, meditation, prayers, reading useful books and others.
Ms Fazila Bibi, Lecturer in Pakistan Studies, thanked the Chairman Union Council Charun, Alwae’z Mr Sher Alam, and the administration of the host school, its students, and dignitaries of the area for their praiseworthy participation in the program.
Finally, senior Faculty Member of GHS Charun, Mr Burhanuddin expressed his deepest gratitude to the participants for sparing some moments from their hectic schedule to grace the program. The program, thus, came to end with words of prayers by Mr Abdur Rehman.
After the program, there was a coordinated Health Walk up to Charun Bridge, in which the students were holding banners and placards expressing firm resolve to free the society from all kinds of unhealthy entities including drugs, and keep the environment clean.
