Women’s rights to join politics – By: Alia Anbarin Aziz
It is a well-known fact that historically, women have been largely excluded from the political sphere. Even today, in many areas of the world, women are not given an equal chance to participate in politics. However, the tide is changing, and women are fighting for and winning their right to be an active and equal member of the political community.
There are many reasons why it is essential for women to join politics. For starters, women make up half of the population, and their voices, perspectives, experiences, and issues are vital to the decision-making process. When women are not involved in national or regional politics, their viewpoints are often overlooked, and their needs are met with neglect.
Moreover, Women’s participation in politics is also necessary for creating a more thoughtful, democratic, and inclusive society. When women hold positions of power in the political arena, they bring different experiences and perspectives, thereby expanding the scope of the conversation and decision-making processes.
Apart from this, Women’s involvement in politics is a crucial aspect of gender equality. Women need to have an equal say in governing themselves as men. Women in politics can help in creating gender-sensitive policies and inculcate feminist values in politics.
In conclusion, It is high time that we break down the gender barriers and give women equal opportunities to participate in politics. Women’s role in leadership positions in politics is vital to the progress of society. When women are given an equal chance to lead, they can bring about positive changes and create societies that are more inclusive, democratic, and equitable.
