Wheat procurement kicked off in Chitral by Food Department
CHITRAL: The department of food has procured 3492 tons of wheat from the growers of Punjab who are transporting their produce to different warehouses of the department in Lower Chitral at the rate of Rs. 3900 per 40 kg.
District food controller, Lower Chitral Arshad Hussain told Chitraltimes.com that the provincial government has set a target the procurement of 9000 tons for the district.

He said that it was for the first time that wheat was being procured from the farmers directly at district level in Chitral which will lead to saving of hundreds of millions of rupees in the head of transportation.

He said that the process of procurement was being supervised by the procurement committee which consisted of the officers of district administration, agriculture department and other stake holders who tested its quality thoroughly before it is purchased.

The food officer said a sizeable quantity of wheat was rejected for procurement when the moisture in the granule of the sample was found to be in larger proportion than the allowed one after measuring it with digital instrument.
Assistant Food Controller Riaz Ahmed, Deputy Director of Agriculture Rafiq Ahmed were also present on the occasion and briefed about the ongoing procurement process.
