CHITRAL: The district heads of different political parties and civil society organizations have expressed their concern over the decision of the Auqaf department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to take over the Shahi Masjid of Chitral and annex its landed commercial property located in the city.

In the emergency meeting held, the leaders said that the 104-year old mosque was built by the former rulers of Chitral and had an historical significance while the department of Auqaf had no stake in its building and maintenance at all.

They said that the purpose of the department was only to take over its landed property located in one of the precious locations of the city which the people of Chitral will oppose and offer stiff resistance.

Those who attended the meeting included former district nazim Maghfirat Shah, Maulana Abdur Rahman (JUI-F), Maulana Jamshed Ahmed (JI), Abdul Wali Khan advocate (PML-N), Fatehur Rehman (PPP), Mir Ebadullah (ANP), Bashir Ahmed (Traders union) and Sajidullah advocate (district bar association).
