    Soaring Inflation

Inflation continues to soar. The recent, weekly Sensitive Price Index (SPI) readings confirm that the prices are surging across the board and by a lot. According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the inflation in the country increased to 13.8 per cent in May of 2022 from 13.4 per cent in the previous month. It was the highest inflation rate since January of 2020.But the people do not need these numbers to be reminded of the rapidly increasing cost of living. They have to deal with this pain every day when they purchase groceries, fill up their vehicle tanks and pay their electricity, health and education bills.

The inflation data computed by the PBS does not capture even a fraction of the pain that low -middle income households are experiencing.  Contrary to it, the government seems to be utterly heedless as he is enjoying all the perks and privileges. These people always find refuge in never ending political tug of war on television shows. Blaming the predecessors has become their favorite pastime. They even forget the simple fact that they themselves are their own predecessors. So, the next time when the government functionaries open their mouth to speak on prices, they better first say sorry to common Pakistanis reeling under the unbearable mass of inflation tax.
