SIFC-Facilitated National Vaccine Policy Approved by Federal Cabinet

    Chitral Times Report

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Cabinet has approved Pakistan’s first-ever National Vaccine Policy, marking a major milestone in the health sector. The policy, led by the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan and facilitated by the Special Investment Facilitation Council, sets the foundation for a more resilient and self-reliant vaccine ecosystem in the country.

The policy provides a comprehensive roadmap for the development, regulation, and promotion of vaccines in Pakistan. It aims to reduce reliance on imports while strengthening domestic manufacturing through targeted incentives, streamlined regulatory processes, and an enabling investment environment.

A key focus is the promotion of local vaccine production through public-private partnerships and technology transfer. The policy is expected to enhance production capacity, ensure supply stability, and improve affordability and access, particularly during public health emergencies.

The framework also emphasizes strengthening regulatory capacity in alignment with global standards set by the World Health Organization. This will support quality assurance, enhance international credibility of locally produced vaccines, and create opportunities for Pakistan to enter global markets.

In addition, the policy promotes research and development, workforce capacity building, and collaboration between academia, industry, and international partners. SIFC’s continued support in removing bottlenecks and facilitating strategic initiatives is expected to accelerate progress across the vaccine value chain.

The approval of the National Vaccine Policy reflects the government’s commitment to improving healthcare resilience, ensuring long-term sustainability, and positioning Pakistan as a competitive player in the global vaccine and biopharmaceutical sector.
