Shandur Festival commences from June 27
CHITRAL: The three-day Shandur Polo Festival will commence in the highest polo ground of the world from 27th June this year instead of its scheduled date of July 7 as it is one of the calendar events of the country.
The commandant of Chitral Scouts colonel Bilal Javed accompanied by the Upper Chitral DC Muhammad Irfanud Din and Lower Chitral DC Muhammad Imran Khan visited the venue of the festival to give it a final touch while president of polo association Shahzada Sikandar was also in attendance.
In their meeting at the site, a number of decisions were taken to hold the festival in a befitting and organized manner in order to provide maximum facilities and comforts to the polo fans turning out from both Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan.
It was decided to take effective steps to keep the fragile environment of the area clean of all types of solid waste as it was summer pasture of the people of Laspur valley of Chitral who tended their yaks there in these months.
It was reiterated that based upon the observations of the polo fans of both the areas of Chitral and GB, the shortcomings in the management of the event will be duly rectified.
