Shab-e-Miraj observes nationwide with prayers for Pakistan’s progress and prosperity
PESHAWAR (APP): Muslims across Pakistan are observing Shab-e-Miraj on Friday with deep religious devotion, reflection and special prayers, seeking progress, prosperity and unity for the country.
In all KP’s cities, towns and villages besides other parts of the country, mosques, imambargahs and places of worship were beautifully illuminated on the occasion of blessed day, while night-long religious gatherings were arranged to mark the sacred occasion with religious enthusiasm.
Worshippers started thronging to mosques and imambargahs, offering voluntary prayers, reciting the Holy Quran and engaging in collective remembrance of the Allah Almighty and reciting Dorood o Salam on the holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Shab-e-Miraj commemorates the miraculous night journey of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), when he was ascended to heaven. This blessed night holds special significance in Islam as it was during Miraj that the obligation of five daily prayers was bestowed upon the Muslim Ummah, forming the foundation of Islamic worship and spiritual discipline.
Across KP, large congregations are being witnessed as worshipers in mosques and other holy worship places of Muslims. Religious scholars and preachers delivered special sermons highlighting the spiritual meaning of Shab e Miraj, emphasizing patience, self-discipline, forgiveness, and obedience to Allah Almighty and adherence to Seerah of the Holy Prophet Muhammad PBUH. Scholars repeatedly reminded worshippers that regular prayer establishes a direct and lasting connection between a believer and the Creator.
Central Khateeb Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Maulana Tayyab Qureshi, described Shab-e-Miraj as a unique opportunity for the Muslims to renew their faith, seek forgiveness and strengthen self-awareness. He urged believers to go beyond rituals and focus on reflection, moral improvement and self accountability. “The message of Miraj calls upon us to review our actions, seek forgiveness and adopt an ethical and disciplined way of life for the benefit of humanity irrespective of caste, colour and nationality,” he said.
Professor Dr. Hifazat Ullah Khan, Chairman of the Islamiyat Department at Islamia College Peshawar, while speaking to APP, said arrival of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was the greatest blessing of Allah Almighty for humanity, and Shab-e-Miraj stands as one of the most blessed nights in Islamic history on which the last holy prophet was transcended to heavens.
He said that Islam, through the teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), transformed this society by abolishing slavery, ending discrimination, restoring women’s dignity and establishing principles of justice, equality and compassion.
He recalled the historic example of tolerance, brotherhood and forgiveness set by the Holy Prophet (PBUH) at the conquest of Makkah, when he announced a general amnesty instead of seeking revenge for all.
Referring to the farewell sermon (Hajjat-ul-Wida), Dr. Hifazat Ullah said the Holy Prophet (PBUH) laid down a universal charter of human rights, emphasizing equality, justice, sanctity of life and property, and socio-economic rights of women. He stressed that Islam rejects all forms of racial, ethnic and social discrimination, declaring that superiority lies only in “Taqwa” (piety and righteous deeds).
He said the Seerah of Holy Prophet (PBUH) provided a complete roadmap for establishing peace, economic stability and social harmony, and urged society to adopt tolerance, brotherhood and forgiveness to achieve lasting progress and prosperity.
The speakers said that holy Prophet Muhammad PBUH was sent as Rehmatul Lilalamin for all creatures and adhering to his teachings was guaranteed to prosperity in this world and hereafter.
Meanwhile, worshippers throughout the night will offer special prayers for Pakistan’s economic stability, unity and development, as well as for peace and security in the country. Prayers are also being offered for Muslim communities facing hardships and conflicts in other parts of the world.
To ensure public safety, Police have strengthened security measures in several cities including Peshawar. Police and security personnel were deployed around major mosques and key locations, while traffic management plans were introduced in busy urban areas to facilitate smooth movement during large gatherings. Citizens expressed satisfaction over the arrangements, adding that the overall atmosphere remained calm and peaceful.
The religious scholars urged the public to spend the sacred night in prayer, self-accountability and seeking forgiveness, while also promoting values of patience, tolerance and brotherhood in society. They emphasized that these values truly reflect the spirit of Shab-e-Miraj.
As mosques remained filled with worshippers from Friday evening into the night, Shab-e-Miraj once again served as a powerful reminder of faith, responsibility and hope uniting Pakistanis in collective prayer for prosperity of Pakistan.
