Residents of Syedabad block Peshawar road as protest against PESCO

CHITRAL: The residents of Syedabad village blocked the Peshawar Road for hours here on Saturday to protest against the Peshawar Electric Supply company (PESCO) authorities for their indifference to the faulty transmission line passing through the village despite reminding them time and again which electrocuted a man to death.

Led by Syed Khalid Hussain Jan, the protesters put the coffin of the deceased on the road and demanded registration of criminal case against the sub-divisional officer of PESCO for indirectly causing the death of the villager.

They said that the transmission line had become a ‘death trap’ for the villagers and the passersby as the inferior-quality conductor of the transmission line failed to withstand the wave of high voltage and melted down with the result that the current is transferred to the electric poles jeopardizing the people near it.

The protesters dispersed peacefully later on when the additional assistant commissioner Adnan Haider Maluki hold negotiations with them and assured them of registration of case against the officials responsible for the incident.

The villagers have given a deadline of 24 hours to the district administration for registering case against the erring officials failing which they will restart their protest sit-in and block the road for all kinds of vehicular traffic.

The deceased identified as Aiki Ghot was later on buried in the village after carrying out his post mortem in the DHQ hospital.
