CHITRAL: The renowned cardiologist of the country Major General (retired) Dr. Azhar Mahmood Kayani, the executive director of Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology, delivered a special lecture on ‘Cardiovascular diseases and Preventing Measures’ in Town Hall here on Tuesday.
Arranged by the Chitral DC Irshad Sodhar, the lecture was termed as first of its kind in Chitral in which dwellers of the city participated in large number who also enquired a number of questions regarding heart diseases.
Terming the rising number of heart patients in Chitral during the last couple of decades, he expressed his concern and said that the people were not properly aware about the nature of heart diseases which they can ward off easily by taking a number of steps.
He said that ischemic heart diseases (IHD) were common in the area which is known as No. 1 killer but it is curable with diet and life style modifications which are caused by loss of blood supply to heart due to the narrowing of arteries.
He asked the audience to keep abreast themselves of their cholesterol level and other dimensions of their body by undergoing periodical laboratory tests so that their physician could advise them proper medication which will go a long way to save from IHD.
He said that one of the factors of the rising number of IHD was the consumption of contaminated cooking oil and their special penchant for consumption of meat in their daily diet while excessive use of vegetables and fruits were highly recommended here.
He also enumerated a number of steps and measures in routine life with special emphasis on living a tension-free life and mould one’s life on easy terms avoiding ostentations and competitions with others.
Dr. Kayani strongly recommended the audience to keep the tablets of disprin in their homes which averted the heart failure instantly and worked well till the patient is removed to the hospital.
