People of Chitral want re-assessment of damages caused by heavy snowfall

CHITRAL; The people of both the districts of Upper and Lower Chitral have demanded of the government to order fresh assessment of the damages of houses, crops and orchards due to the heavy snow fall in the length and breadth of the valley as a large number of really affected people had been left in the process carried out earlier.

President of Upper Chitral chapter of PPP, Amirullah Khan told the media persons in Chitral Press Club here on Tuesday that the snowfall that incessant snowfall for three days in the early days of March devastated the houses and fruit orchards in Chitral but more than half of the affected persons were not accounted for in the assessment.

He said that the during the initial round of the assessment, a large number of the sub-valleys were not approachable for the field staff as a result of which these areas left behind and their left from documentation to enable them for compensation.

He said that internet connectivity was mandatory in an affected place for its geographical positioning and unfortunately most of the areas were without electricity and their damages could not be transmitted to the quarters concerned.

The PPP leader appreciated the scientific method of damage assessment but he regretted that due in the absence of sound internet connectivity, it was not possible.

He said that the unusual snowfall  in the area will render the people more poor and indigent than before if they are not properly compensated by the government for which re-assessment of the whole area was inevitable.
