Pakistan’s Partition, Not Independence -By: Faizan Aziz
14 of August 1947 marks a historical event in the history of the world. The Muslim community of the sub-continent achieved their hundred years of struggling to add Pakistan as an independent Muslim territory on the map of the world. The hundred-year struggle started from the Muslim leader and reformer Mr. Sir Sayed Ahmad Khan who first changed the Muslim conception about modern education and science. He ensured the Muslims of sub-content acquired modern education to get their rights. He presented the two nation theory which became a basic unit for the Pakistan struggle. Later, through the strong leadership and guidance of Allama Muhammad Iqbal and Quaid Azam Muhammad Jinnah, the Muslims achieved this beautiful country from the British Empire.
This beautiful country was created as a notion of Islamic democratic values, with freedom of life, speech, religion and justice. Quaid Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah once said while addressing the first constitutional Assembly of Pakistan on 11th of August 1947 that everyone is free to live here in Pakistan with dignity and respect and every religious community is free to live here with their religious values. He also mentioned tackling the problems of the role of law, justice, corruption, nepotism and bribery, and he considered these as the key hurdles for the development of any state of the world.
It was unfortunate for Pakistan that Quaid Azam and Liaquat Ali, two great leaders, left us very early. This created a big opportunity for the elites to directly rule over us. However, it is a fact that the seventy-six-year history of Pakistan shows that 14 August 1947 was a transition not an Independence Day of Pakistan. It was just moving from foreign British rule to the local Elite rule with the authority of elitocracy. Elitocracy means the ruling by egotists on a state who have no qualifications for governing, but they have the power, authority and resources to control people and use them for their needs, treating the general public as their slaves and using fear as a weapon to emotionally control the lower and middle class. They use different political terminologies like warmongers, youthias, digital terrorists and razakar to subjugate the emerging youth. However, these elites are always in a paranoid state and use force to deal with political uprising. The current Bangladesh situation is the best example of it.
In Pakistan, elitocracy became the biggest problem after the death of Quaid e Azam Muhmammad Ali Jinnah, and Liaqaut Ali Khan. The one percent of the elite in this country includes strong family-based politicians, businessmen, landlords, religious clerics, and Civil and Military bureaucrats who have directly or indirectly ruled over us with more power and authority. They have captured all the resources, governing, and justice systems of Pakistan. These people are above the law, and the Constitution is just a testing paper for them. They have shaped everything of this country according to themselves and they have made PAKISTAN as the sick man of South Asia. And now Pakistan is facing the worst problems of political and economic instability, terrorism and extremism, corruption, rule of law, justice, and constitutional crisis.
The core ideology of Pakistan with Islamic democratic rule has been changed into elite monarchism with the ideology of self-benefits and self-rule. The democratic values of freedom of life, speech, religion, and justice have been vague. The self-made policies and governance of the elite have made this country the worst in the world. And now it is a fact that the elite of this country have become mafias and no one can talk and stand against them. They have the power to murder you physically and emotionally.
According to ex-finance minister Miftah Isamail, Pakistan is not an Islamic democratic country rather it is a playground for elites. He writes that since from independence 22 families and their children have ruled over Pakistan. They have the extreme power, wealth, and authority to make policies for controlling the 98% percent of the population and exploit them physically, emotionally, and economically. They have made this country their property where they do experiments to control the lower and middle-class people of Pakistan through governance and government policies.
However, when it comes to the education policies of Pakistan it is the worst in the world. The education policy of a country is the key to determining the future of the state. The best education policy produces future leaders who will give the right direction to the state. But it is a fact that Pakistan’s education system and policy is a complete disaster. By critical analysis of the education policy of Pakistan it is surprising to say that of over four million Pakistani young children, only one million finished their 12 years of education. Half our children are out of school and the reset are much failed to complete their 12 years of education due to economic problems. Meanwhile, only 30,000 young kids of A-level successfully get admission in top universities of the world and they become future leaders of Pakistan. These are the one percent Pakistanis children who have access to good education which is a complete disaster for this country.
The economic and taxation system of Pakistan is also a big disaster. The FBR (Federal Bureau of Revenue) is the only government institution that collects taxes. However, I was really surprised by the thoughts of Shabbar Zaidi, the ex-chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue. He says that the lower and middle-class Pakistanis paid 200 percent more taxes than the elite class. It is a fact that the powerful people of Pakistan have hijacked FBR and its workers. The FBR has failed to collect taxes from the powerful due to corruption and the strong influence of the elite. He further said that when I tried to reform FBR I failed badly due to the strong opposition of the civil and military bureaucrats, powerful politicians, businessmen, and landlords
The justice system of Pakistan is also the worst in the world. The powerful elite has the power to manage everything regarding Justice. It is famous that our judicial system only gives justice to the innocent after their execution and death. It is very difficult to find that in the history of the judicial system of Pakistan, it imprisoned powerful people according to the law. The power elite of Pakistan always consider themselves above the law and it is a fact that a brigadier wife, a secretary son, a minister chowkidar, and a businessman munishe are more powerful than the chief justice of Pakistan. And it is right to say that the justices have done in Pakistan through a message or a phone while the courtrooms are just a makeup studio for Judges and lawyers.
When it comes to the rule of law, it ends in Pakistan at Jinnah House or Core Commander House Lahore. As Pakistani everyone condemns 9th May 2023 vandalism and we hope the state will surely reach the real perpetrators. But it is a fact that in Pakistan the respect of Jinnah House is higher than the mosques, temples, churches, and the individuals’ homes of the state. The night raids in the houses, violation of Chadr and chrdiwari, the imprisonments of 14 years old child, psychological tortures of the family members of prisoners, and the abduction of women illegally are totally distasteful. However, it shows that there is no rule of law in Pakistan and the bureaucratic elites of Pakistan are above the law. They have the authority and power to do everything and their no power to undo them.
As a researcher and analyst, I say that the youth is now aware of this country and its core issues. The eagle spirit has awakened among them and I hope that the youth of Pakistan and the upcoming generation will change the destiny of this beautiful home land.
