CHITRAL : The ‘Mother and Child week’ kicked off on Monday during which the targets will be approached in all the twenty four union councils with the field force of about 500 ladies health workers and paramedical staff of the health department.
In a meeting held here on Monday, the district coordinator of National Program of Health workers Dr. Irshad Ahmed, said that the week has four-pronged objectives of vaccinating the children upto two years missing it earlier, giving de-worming tablets to the children of 2 to 5 years of age, giving anti-tetanus injections to the pregnant women and dissemination of awareness knowledge to the community about hygiene and health.
He said that a lectures on health and hygiene will be delivered in each village
in which the community members will be told about ways and principles to ward off the diseases and lead a healthy life and that how an individual can play his or her role in this achieving this goal.
The district health officer Dr. Israrullah reviewed the efforts of the department to make the campaign a success and said that a comprehensive strategy has been put in place for monitoring of the field staff so that not a single child or women escapes their approach.
He said that the ‘mother and child’ week is celebrated twice in a year with interval of six moths with the financial assistance of UNICEF and it is a fact that it has a far-reaching effects on the society.
Later on, an awareness walk was taken out from the district health office led by Dr. Israrullah which terminated at Women and Children Hospital Jang Bazaar.
