JI demands forthwith survey and assessment transparently for rain affectees of Chitral

CHITRAL: The amir of Jamaat-Islami (JI) Lower Chitral, Maulana Jamshed Ahemd, general secretary Wajeehud Din and president of Al-Khidmat Foundation, Abdul Haq have demanded of the government to ensure forthwith, fair and transparent survey and assessment of the damages to the people caused by the recent unprecedented rains and snowfall continuing for three days.

Addressing a joint press conference here on Monday, they said that a colossal damage had been caused to the people who have lost their homes, crops and fruit orchards to the natural disaster in the form of heavy rains and snow and the affected people are in dire need of help and support.

They said that majority of the people are poor who dwelled in the slum houses which did not withstand the incessant rains and fell down and already mired in poverty and indigence, they did not afford to reconstruct it without the solid support of the government.

They demanded Rs. 1 million as compensation for the fully damaged house and half of it for the partially damaged house as well as Rs. 1 lakh for the walls of the boundary walls of the houses and for the crops of wheat and fruit orchards.

They reiterated that without the support of the government, the affected people will face famine leading to human tragedy as they had already been rendered penniless due to the soaring prices of food items including that of wheat.

The leaders of JI also demanded of the government to restore the irrigation channels destroyed by the rains and snow on emergency basis otherwise, the crops and fruit trees saved from the disaster will wither away causing further loss to the people.

They have also demanded of the provincial and central office-holders of Al-Khidmat Foundation to rush to the rescue of the affected people of Chitral by dispatching food and non-food items on emergency basis.
