    IT Minister urges all Govt. Departments to shift Data on NTC System

    ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Syed Amin Ul Haque has urged all government departments to shift their data on safe and secure system of National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC). The Federal Minister for IT & Telecom was chairing meeting regarding cyber security here on Wednesday. Additional Secretary (Incharge) Ministry of IT and Telecommunication Mohsin Mushtaq, Chairman PTA Maj Gen (Retd) Amir Azeem Bajwa, MD National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) Meraj Gul, Executive Director National Information Technology Board (NITB) Syed Hasnain Kazmi, and senior officers of the Ministry were present in the meeting.

    IT Minister Syed Amin Ul Haque said that NTC thwarted lacs of cyber attacks last year which is the proof of its safe and secure system. He said that NTC has effective cyber security system. It is vital that all the government departments should shift their data on the safe and secure system of NTC, he added. Federal Minister also emphasised upon shifting of E-cabinet and E-office system to separate system for making it further secure. He urged all public and private departments to harmonise their security system with modern requirements. Earlier, the chair was given briefing on attempted cyber attack on NTC networking side.

    The meeting was told that no data was lost or leak following cyber attack on networking side, and some services were automatically suspended which were reactivated within three hours. A committee was also formed under Additional Secretary MoITT, Aisha Humera to know the causes of cyber attacks and their prevention in future.

    ISLAMABAD: Meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication was held under the chairmanship of Senator Kauda Babar at Parliament House on Thursday. Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Syed Amin Ul Haque, Additional Secretary (Incharge) Ministry of IT and Telecommunication Mohsin Mushtaq, Additional Secretary MoITT, Aisha Humera Moriani, and Member Telecom Omar Malik were also present in the meeting. Addressing the meeting, Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Syed Amin Ul Haque said that a Committee has been formed to probe the causes of cyber attacks and prevent them in future. The Committee will present its report in 14 days, he added.

    The Federal Minister said that Ministry of IT decided to give autonomy to National Information Technology Board (NITB). About cyber attacks, the meeting was told by Ministry of IT that attempt was made to choke internet traffic through fake IPs. National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) foiled the cyber attacks successfully, and NTC server and websites’ data remained safe, the meeting was told.
