CHITRAL: The speakers in a function held here on Friday in connection with distribution of scholarships among the position holders of matriculation examination reiterated that the religious leaders are no averse to modern education but they supported it whole heartedly.
The scholarships to the top six position holders of matric examination are given by Qari Faizullah, the president of a Karachi based seminary, Madressa Imam Muhammad for the last thirteen years while Kalash students were also awarded to enable them to continue their education in colleges.
The speakers included Chitral DC Irshad Sodhar, khateeb of Shahi Masjid Maulana Khaleequz Zaman, District education officer Mumtaz Ahmed and others.
They said that the scholarships granted every year by a cleric was enough to dispel the impression that the religious leaders
differentiated between the modern education and the religious one and special prizes to the Kalash students expressed the catholicity of their outlook.
They said that Qari Faizullah has also contributed substantially to the development of English medium schools and introduction of information technology in the district.
The speakers said that a proper balance between the modern scientific education and theology will lead to bring about harmony in the society.
In the public sector schools, the winners of the scholarships included Muhammad Hanif, Sohail Abbas and Ashfaqur Rahman of Governemnt Centnnial Model School Chitral and Madiha Saba of Government Girls High School Chitral.
Similarly, in the private sector schools, the prizes were grabbed by Tanzila Ghulam of Chitral Model College, Amina Shuja of The Langland’s School and Ambareen Maqsood of the same school.
Shields were given to the principal of the respective schools of the position holders in appreciation of their efficiency.
