PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan has said that he is the Chief Minister of a province whose police history is full of stories of sacrifices which he really feels proud of. “If anyone has fought bravely against terrorism in the province on the front line and challenged the terrorists, it is the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police” he remarked and said that we were indebted to those who sacrificed their lives to give us an opportunity to breathe in a peaceful atmosphere for which we and our generations will be grateful to the families of those martyrs.
He expressed these views while addressing a ceremony held here on Thursday to mark the “Police Martyrs Day”. Appreciating the overall performance of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, he said that the performance of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police was much better than the police force of other provinces, for which the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police deserved praise and appreciation. The chief minister termed the peace as first priority of his government and said that if there is peace, then everything will be okay. He further said that although the police have made a lot of sacrifices to establish peace in the province, but even today police officers were being targeted; we have to take concrete steps to stop the target killing of Police and to protect them against the unknown enemy. Mahmood Khan said that he belonged to a region that was most affected by terrorism and he had seen many martyrs in front of his eyes and faced harsh conditions adding that the mostly martyrdoms were rendered by the police. He said that all the forces in uniform including police, army and FC were always ready to render sacrifices for the sake of nation but our forces have had rendered many martyrdoms and now we only want Ghazis for which we all have to work together.
He said that whatever resources are required to strengthen the police force and bring it in line with contemporary requirements; provincial government will provide those resources on priority as maintaining law and order in the province was the priority of his government. The Chief Minister said that the provincial police stood with the families of the martyrs and will continue to stand and cooperate with them. Mahmood Khan assured that he will take all possible steps to resolve the issues faced by the heirs of the police martyrs and ensure the full implementation of the quota of police martyrs in the jobs. On this occasion, the Chief Minister announced to make the monthly ration package of the police force equal to the ration package of police in Punjab.
The Chief Minister also distributed financial assistance cheques of Rs. 10 million amongst the heirs of police martyrs. Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, Chief Secretary Dr. Shahzad Bangash, Inspector General of Police Moazzam Jah Ansari, members of the Provincial Assembly, senior police officials, families of police martyrs and a large number of media representatives attended the ceremony. Addressing the event, other speakers also paid rich tribute to the sacrifices of police martyrs.
