    Forest department kicked off seed dispersal campaign

    CHITRAL: The department of forest sowed the seeds of chalghuza in 1200 hactares area of Chitral Gol National Park (CGNP) to raise the population of deodar trees while the practice was a supplement of the plantation carried out in the spring season.

     

    The divisional forest officer (DFO) of Chitral forest division, Shaukat Fiaz Khattak and DFO of CGNP Irshad Ahmed kicked off the campaign of seed dispersal of chalghuza in the park in function attended by the conservationists and volunteers.

     

    They said that the tens of thousands of saplings of deodar had already been planted in the park under the billion trees tsunami project and the dispersal of seed method of plantation was being initiated with the hope of brighter chances of their germination and growth leading to increase the population.

     

    They said that the increased density of trees in the national park known for its rich biodiversity which Kashmir markhor, snow leopard and many species of migratory and local birds will further increase their population.
