    DPEC meeting held to review the arrangements of the SNID commencing from 28th October

    CHITRAL; In the meeting of district polio eradication committee (DPEC) to discuss the arrangements of sub-national immunization days (SNID), it was decided to increase the polio teams in the villages of border area Arandu keeping in view its sensitivity and mountainous topography.

    Earlier, district health officer Dr. Fayaz Roomi and coordinator EPI Dr. Fayaz Roomi briefed the meeting about the arrangements of the forthcoming campaign and described the issues that impeded to achieve the targets which included its hard and rugged topography and the rigid tribal customs where women vaccinators were tabooed.

    On this, the Lower Chitral DC Mohsin Iqbal, chairing the meeting, asked the officers of health department to make sure make sure the achievement of  hundred percent target for which district administration will go to any extent in providing resources and assistance of any type.

    He stressed on rectification of the drawbacks that cropped up  during the last NID  and negatively affected its results assuring all-out support on his part including provision of vehicles as required apart from horses to the off road areas.

    He also directed the district health officer to station himself in Arandu during the SNID to cope up with the emerging situation instantly and ensure the transmission of the daily report of vaccination to the operation centre in the district headquarters.

    He reiterated that polio was a national emergency which must be taken with highest degree of earnestness and no laxity is tolerable in the efforts to wipe out the deadly disease from the motherland.

    District police officer Iftikhar Shah also assured the meeting of providing security to the polio teams in the Arandu area specially so that the vaccination process goes on smoothly leaving no child unattended there.

    He said that the police lady constables have been performing the additional duties of vaccination during the last campaign while police department will spare no effort in future as well in future to fight the poliovirus.

    On this occasion, it was decided to establish a new transit team near Lowari tunnel on Chitral side and each and every vehicle entering or leaving the district will be checked for children of below 5 years of age and duly vaccinate them.

    The district officer of population welfare, Asghar Khan offered the services of 17 female and 17 male of his field force for the vaccination campaign in Arandu which was appreciated.

    Those who were in attendance included Additioanl DC (general) Abdus Salam, AC Chitral Munir Aftab, coordinator Family Health Program Dr. Salim Saifullah Khan, tehsil municipal officer Rahmat Hanif, deputy DEO Shahid Hussain, assistant director local government Jawad Khan and others.
