    District Level Science-Mathematics Competition held in AKHSS Kuragh

    KURAGH: Availing of the opportunity to compete at the District level,students of both the public and private sectors gathered at the Aga Khan Higher Secondary School Kuragh on the occasion of District Level Science-Mathematics Competition 2017. Out of more than 50 schools and colleges invited, the number of actual participation at SSC and HSSC level was 10 and 6 respectively.

     

    The Deputy District Officer Education,Chitral Mr. Mumtaz Muhammad Wardak was the guest of honour accompanied by Mr. Saeed Ullah Jan, ex Principal as the President. Other dignitaries included Mr. Zulfiqar Ali, Senior Manager School Development AKES Chitral, Mr. Shahzad Nadeem ADO Education District Chitral, Mr. AkhtarNawaz Manager HR AKES Chitral, Mr. Meraj Uddin Chairperson REB Council Upper Chitral, Principal Aga Khan Higher Secondary Seenlasht Mr. Tufail Nawaz, other principals, head mistresses, head teachers from government and private institutions, community notables, councilors, parents and so on.

     

    After the recitation, Na’t and patriotic song presented by the students of AKHSS Kuragh, the Principal AKHSS Kuragh Ms. Sultana Burhanuddin welcomed the guests and underscored the importance of competition: it helps in promoting cooperation, mutual learning, and accepting failures gracefully. The school unequivocally believed in the equal importance of curricular as well as co-curricular activities to nurture the students holistically.

     

    Ahead of the quiz competition, the jury panel, which included lecturers from Government Boys Degree College Booni Mr. Aziz U Rehman lecturer Physics, Dr.AsadUllah lecturer Chemistry, lecturer Biology Mr. Jamshid Sarwar, Lecturer Mathematics Mr. Fakhruddin, was constituted. Mr. Zafar Ahmad, SST Government Higher Secondary School Shagram, took on the responsibility of timekeeper.

     

    Hosted by Mr. Tanzil U Rehman and Mr. RehmatHasil, lectuters Government Boys Degree College Chitral, thespectacularfirst segment of the competition for SSC level began with a short description of the criteria, rounds and the rules set for the competition. Altogether 10 schools participated in the first round. Two in each up to the 3rd round were eliminated while one was out at the 4th round. Based on the aggregated scores, the 1st three positions were decided; 1st position was won by the AKHSS Kuragh whereas AKS Booniremained2nd and AKHSS Seenlasht stood 3rd in the competition.
    In the next segment, competition at HSSC level,the AKHSS Seenlasht carried the day. The 2nd position went toAKHSS Kuragh. The FCPS Chitral grabbed the 3rd position. In total, there were 6 different higher secondary schools and colleges in the competition.

     

    Another activity, the District Level English Creative Writing Contest 2017, which had been announced in September and continued till 12 October, was participated by 7 schools and intermediate colleges. After the essays were received and coded, they weresent for external assessment. According to the marks given by the Subject Specialists after thorough checking,the results were announced as: Chitral New City College Chitral stood 3rd, AKHSS Seenlasht2nd, whereas AKHSS Kuragh made it to the top.

     

    Afterwards, other than the first 3 position holders,rest of the participants were awarded with participation certificates. Certificates of achievements with winning shields were handed out to the top 3 positions in the competition.

     

    Speaking on the grand ceremony, the chief guest announced the ‘School of Excellence’ award for AKHSS Kuragh and Seenlasht. He appreciated the participation of all the institutions and encouraged them to aspire to win topnotch awards. He further gave a glimpse of some of the activities undertaken by the district education department. He also acknowledged the progress of education in Chitral; saying that the high literacy rate in the district had made it stand at third in the entire province after Abbottabad and Mansehra. After his address, the Principal AKHSS Kuragh presented the chief guest with souvenir. The jury and hosts were honored with bouquets. Later, the guest lunched on the school lawn.
