    District administration lower Chitral establishes a help line for distressed women with the collaboration of AKHSP

    CHITRAL: A help line was set up in the office of deputy commissioner Chitral for the distressed women  to reduce the number of suicides among the women folk which has risen to a horrendous proportion in the recent years.

     

    A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was set signed between Chitral DC Naveed Ahmed and regional head of Aga Khan Health Service Pakistan Mirajuddin as per the terms of which the latter will provide counseling and other assistance to the distraught.

     

    Addressing on the occasion, Naveed Ahmed said that the help line will remain opened 24/7 where women staff have been posted so that the distressed women could frankly and openly discuss their matters with them will full privacy.

     

    He said that the rising tendency of suicide and suicide attempts necessitated the availability of a platform as a place of solace where they could be provided with counseling and consolation to bring them back to normalcy.

     

    He said that the distressed women can now call at phone No. 0943-413858 to seek guidance and assistance and upon reception of call, action will be hastended to save the precious life from being wasted.

     

    The regional head of AKHS, P Mirajuddin said that during the year 2019, more than 50 persons committed or attempted to commit suicide in different parts of Chitral while the main reason of the high rate of suicide was lack of awareness and counseling.

     

    He said that his organization will lend full support to the district to contain suicides among women which had become emerging health issue in the district.
