CHITRAL: Starting operation against the cultivation of hashish, the Chitral Police destroyed the crops cultivated in Mulkhow area of upper Chitral and arrested the farmers and seized the plants in its custody by harvesting it.
An official of Mulkhow police station told Dawn that the sub-divisional officer Attaullah led the operation which harvested the crop in many fields and also recovered large quantity of liquor from the possession of the farmers who were reportedly involved in peddling of narcotics of different types.
He said that approach of zero tolerance towards production, selling and use of narcotics has been adopted by the police and efforts were also underway to stop the distillation of liquor from grapes and mulberry.
It is worth mentioning here that bumper crop of hashish was obtained in the upper belt of the district while it was one of the sources of income of the erstwhile state and regular tax was exacted on its transportation to the other districts.
