The article is the continuation of the previous one where the thoughts of the local people about the causes of suicide in the region are enclosed.
.
Mr. Nizar, an adventurer, nature seeker, and banker by profession, identified the family and most often the parents of the victim as responsible. While talking about it he said, “Over-expectation of parents from their children is the leading cause of suicide in our region. Furthermore, forcing their thoughts on children makes the situation even worse”. Sharing his experiences about one such incident, he added; “I had a friendly relation with a family, where the father used to taunt his son for taking fewer marks and sometimes he would not hesitate to beat him. After matriculation, he forced him towards the medical field irrespective of his interests. His relation with his father was very fragile and after bearing the pains of such unfriendly relations, he finally decided to take his own life”.
.
“To my observations, the lack of hope and courage in one’s life results in suicidal thoughts. The fact that social media is prevailing over the normal lifestyles of people is what causes all this drama. If unmonitored it controls one’s mind and then there is no way to escape. The success of all others on the internet causes anxiety which leads towards depression and finally, the depression pushes them towards suicide.” These were the thoughts of Mr. Maqsood Ali, an engineer, philosopher, and a poet.
.
Zakana, a student of psychology, also shared her views about the problem. Here is what she said, “The desire for happiness and success without trying and sacrificing is what I believe to be the major cause of suicide in our region. Our people want happiness and success but didn’t bother to utilize their time and energies in the tidy process. In the end, when they are unable to accomplish what they have always dreamed of, they readily choose to end that unsuccessful life.”
,
Musarat Ali, an enthusiastic learner of the valley contacted me in messenger and these are his words, “I am much worried about the problem. People come with different explanations but to me, the root of the problem lies in poverty. I must also say that poverty has three types, poverty of mind, heart, and money.”
.
Before winding up, let’s listen to the person who has escaped from the mouth of suicide, “Three years back I jumped from the third storey of a building but to everyone’s surprise, I was found alive. The cause of my suicide may sound funny to most of you but let’s go back in time to 2014 when I fell in love with a girl. We dated for two years and in that period I became dependent on her without me even realizing.
.
Then came 2017; the year of my destruction, when my girlfriend began to ignore me and finally broke up without any reason. I felt as if all the enjoyments and joy have been drained away from my life. The state of depression was awaiting and it impacted the way I used to think, feel, and behave. It led to a negative self-perpetuating circle that was hard to escape. I struggled for months before I finally decided to commit suicide.”
.
Today, many people describe me as a failure and pass different comments describing how a loser I was to attempt suicide for a girl, but I want to say, “You will never understand until it happens to you. Whenever I look back to the possible cause of the suicide I find one thing clear,
“Monsters are real, ghosts are real too. They live inside us, and sometimes they win”.
