CHITRAL; To cope with the natural disasters in Chitral effectively, produce resilience in the vulnerable population and mitigate the suffering, village council level disaster management policy will be formulated in the areas prone to natural hazards including glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF).

The project named ‘promoting integrated mountain safety in Northern Pakistan’  launched by the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH) in  different areas of Chitral including Kalash valleys of Bumburate, Birir and Rumbur which have been devastated by the flash flood in 2015.

In its inception workshop held in Bubmurate valley here on Monday, the project experts of AKAH and the chairman of Ayun and valleys Development Program, Rahmat Ilahi discussed in detail the areas in which training could be imparted to the local people by including their indigenous knowledge.

The experts Fida Hassan and Syed Rahim Aman Shah said that no management plan can be successful if it is not based on the local knowledge and the decades old experience of the people living in the areas who were more familiar with the climatic conditions and geographical features of the area.
