    Three-day snow sports festival concludes in Madak Lusht village of Chitral

    CHITRAL: The three-day snow sports festival concluded here on Sunday  in Madak Lusht village of Sheshi Koh valley in which different games specific to snow are being played by the local and non-local participants while a number of foreigners had also shown up.

    Held by Hindu Kusht Snow Sports Club (HKSSC)  with the financial assistance of Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, GLOF-II Project, UNDP and Ministry of Climate Change, the snow sports gala was said to be first of its nature in Chitral.

    Situated at a drive of three hours from the Chitral-Peshawar Road, the valley is packed with more than four feet of snow giving ideal opportunity to the skiing and snow skating while large number of snow sports fans thronged to the venue braving the perilous journey on the mountainous terrains.

    Deputy Commissioner Chitral Naveed Ahmed gave away prizes to the participants while a large number of people from different parts of Chitral had gathered due to the sunny day which facilitated them to approach the valley.

    Talking on the occasion, he said that this event was held for the first time under the patronage of the government and it will boost the winter tourism which has a tremendous potential in Chitral.

    The president of HKSSC, Shahzada Hishamul Mulk said that the snow sports were not new to the people of Madak Lusht as they were already playing local versions of the sports since the olden days and with a little effort, they were trained in different snow sports in vogue world over.

    He said that the snow sports of giant slalom (a sort of alpine skiing), skiing with wooden planks, ice skating and ice skating were included in the three-day gala for which trained and consummate players from Swat and other hilly areas  were approaching the valley.

    The local people said that the event has bring to light the hitherto neglected, forgotten and remote valley of Madak Lusht although it had fabulous natural beauty to promote tourism.

    They  said that the event has led to polish their potentials and capabilities and now they knew about different modes and types of snow sports.
