    Chitral Times Report

CHITRAL: A hunter from Spain has trophy hunted a Kashmir markhor in Chitral for a sum of 61.219 million rupees. The length of the animal’s horns was 41.5 inches.

Mr. Cristian Pablo Abello Gamazo, a 52-year-old resident of Spain, successfully hunted the markhor on Sunday in the Gehirit Golen Conservation Area in Lower Chitral. He obtained a hunting permit from the Wildlife Department for 61.219 million rupees.

Farooq Nabi Khan, the DFO of Wildlife Chitral District, mentioned that the hunter proved to be an expert in his field by successfully hunting the trophy-sized markhor within five minutes of spotting it. Local community members assisted him in finding the animal. A month earlier, an 81-year-old American hunter had paid a fee of 70 million rupees and hunted a Kashmir markhor in the Toshi Shasha Conservation Area on the Chitral Garam Chashma Road.

He stated that 80% of the permit fee is given to the local community, who help in the conservation of the animal and use the funds for their collective development. It is worth noting that the Wildlife Department auctions two permits for the Kashmir markhor in Chitral’s Toshi and Gehirit areas annually.
