ISLAMABAD: In a meeting on Tuesday, MNA Chitral Shahzada Iftikhar Uddin along with Khalid Hussain Advocate met with Secretary Election Commission Babar Yaqoob Mohammed who assured to address the concerns of Chitrals people by keeping Chitrals NA seat separate from Dir.
Talking to Chitral Times MNA Chitral Shahzada Iftikharud Din has said that means Chitrals NA seat that is now expected to be named as NA 1 Chitral will retain its distinct status and that three UCs of Dir upto Chukiatan Bridge as widely speculated will not be merged with Chitral.
He said The Election Commission is expected to officially announce this decision in next few weeks. This will certainly provide a sigh of relief to many Chitrals who were seeing this as a threat to Chitrals distinct culture.
However on the possibility of retaining both the Provincial Assembly seats the Secretary Election Commission advised MNA Shahzada Iftikhar Uddin to file a written petition and then plead the case for the two Provincial Assembly seats and promised to decide the case based on its merits.
In a separate meeting with Director Election Commission on the same day the MNA also argued the case for the two Provincial Assembly seats and presented strong supporting points why Chitrals Provincial Assembly seats should not be reduced from two to one.
MNA has been assured of a hearing based on merits and demerits of the case & Shahzada Iftikhar Uddin has decided to defend the case for two Provincial Assembly seats after consulting his lawyers.
