Rumors of Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan
Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, the father of Pakistan’s nuclear programme procured Pakistan’s firm position ahead in the risk of any possible aggression of our enemy towards its sovereignty. Dr. Khan’s ineffable persona of guarded life has remained suspicious and a hot topic in the eyes of western countries and public domain due to his knowledge of nuclear proliferation and being given less anticipated respect by the government and absence of Prime Minister Imran Khan in his funeral.
The anger of western world came out through newspapers taking Dr. Khan as a peril to their existence and a failed chase to finish his life. The Israeli newspapers published infuriated articles like the one says “Abdul Qadeer Khan, who died this week in Islamabad, got Pakistan the bomb, stole and sold atomic secrets, profited from a shady global proliferation network, helped Iran go nuclear, aided Gadhafi’s reactor ambitions – and still passed away from natural causes, not at the hands of the Mossad. They were dreadful and feeling unrest about Dr. Khan being a proliferator of an Islamic country and it may cause more dangerous risk to the western world. British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) covers the story as “Adbul Qadeer Khan: Father of Pakistan’s nuclear bomb” dies. These reactions and like many more wrath responses indicate the significance of his great contribution to put an Islamic country in the list of Nuclear countries. It also reveals a more possible threat to the life of our national hero and nuclear programme to divulge nuclear information to Libya and Gaddafi thawed out sufficiently to build the relationship stronger with America.
The politicians are often called opportunists and they didn’t miss this opportunity to criticize the government and drove the public to melt their emotions of higher expectation to give Dr. Khan an extraordinary protocol during and after his life. We often ignore important issues in our end and question those matters wrong in the opponent’s jurisdiction. It gives us the dare to ask a few questions from two major ruled political parties who only blame General Musharraf as the sole accountable person to oppress Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan.
Political point scoring was started just after his death, censuring General Musharraf ill-treating Dr. Khan as he was deserving special importance being a founder of the nuclear program. Few of them commented and sympathized with his contribution to the level of president ship to Pakistan. Were the circumstances of those time lines like the context of diplomatic pressure and engagement of agencies to declare Pakistan as unsafe to protect its nuclear program was feasible to elect Dr Khan for this position? But, politics on this sensitive issue continued pointing fingers towards General Pervez Musharraf to defend pardon of Abdul Qadeer Khan as it was admitted by Dr. Khan to provide nuclear technology to Iran, Libya and North Korea. Libya transcended this issue and contented America and shared Dr. Khan’s offers to help Gaddafi to gain expertise in nuclear advancement. It pressurized the ruling regime to take stringent guidelines to limit the activities of Dr. Khan. Consequently, upon Dr. Khan’s own up, he was bound to confine work. The opposition parties were voiced and claimed that the apology and confession obtained from Abdul Qadeer Khan were obtained under pressure.
The actual question is why we always refer to the past if one-self past is questionable to address and resolve those matters in the past. Why was such importance not given to our proud and our hero who put his life in danger in the year 1972, at the age 36, when he joined Dutch laboratory for specialization in centrifuges to enrich uranium? He succeeded in his mission, despite strict observation and reservation of Dutch intelligence agencies. If General Musharraf’s policies were failed to defend Dr. Khan then what about those ruling parties like Pakistan Muslim League and Pakistan People Parties during their tenure to give justice back to our national hero. Those who had an authoritative position are now questioning the current government as patriotic by referring to Dr. Abdul Kalam of India was elected for presidency. But unfortunately, the restrictions and activities also remained the same as after Musharraf’s regime.
News unceasingly circulating in the media by common man and the opposition parties pointing to the government’s deterioration to deliver the deserving attention and protocol to Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan. In his tweeter message, Prime Minister Imran Khan extolled Dr. Khan for his critical contribution to make Pakistan a nuclear country in the world. Along with some critics in Pakistan, social media of our neighbor country trending the deleterious gesture of apathy regarding Dr. Khan’s funeral. Even though there was a massive presence of the public along with cabinet members, parliamentarian and military officers during his Funeral ceremony in Islamabad. However, people may seek justification and question Prime Minister Imran Khan about his absence in the state funeral to the father of the nuclear program of Pakistan.
Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan’s contribution to balance the power in the region comes in line with those who drew the name of Pakistan in the world’s map. We sleep tight just because of our nuclear capability otherwise India has an inferior eye towards us being ahead in the race of nuclear technology. Dr. Khan protected our boundaries and secured our land with nuclear weapons. His accomplishment made our strategic defense and enabled us to challenge our enemy to be prepared for the ruinous consequences of our retaliation against their aggression.
Our hero left us physically but his contribution will alive Pakistan forever. The love and the respect of Dr. Abdul Qadeer will always remain in our hearts. We feel proud of his outstanding achievement and will remember our hero whenever India dares to attack Pakistan. Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan lives in the heart of every single Pakistani regardless what General Musharraf and afterward ruling governments did with this great nuclear scientist? Pakistan has now their own standing and identity in the world and we are no more subservient to any country. Salute to our great scientist to bring Pakistan in a dauntless position from Perilous situation.
