    Prime Minister directives issued for Major Development Projects in Chitral

    Establishment of a State-of-the-Art Hospital and a new University in Upper Chitral

    CHITRAL: During Prime Minister’s visit to Chitral on October 31, 2025, several key directives were issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Islamabad, aimed at accelerating development in the region, particularly in the sectors of health, education, energy, and communications.

    According to the official document released by the Prime Minister’s Office, the Power Division has been directed to coordinate with relevant authorities within one week to resolve the long-standing electricity tariff issue in Upper Chitral. Similarly, the Petroleum Division has been instructed to take immediate steps for the installation of a gas plant in Chitral. The Minister for Petroleum and the Secretary Petroleum Division will visit Chitral next week to review progress and discuss matters related to the gas supply to the district.

    The directives also stated that the Chitral–Booni–Mastuj–Shandur Road should be completed by December 2026, while the Chitral–Ayun–Bumburate Road project is scheduled for completion by May 2026. Both road projects have been prioritized for early completion to improve regional connectivity and promote tourism.

    Furthermore, the Minister for Communications and the Secretary Communications will visit Chitral on November 3, 2025, to review important infrastructure projects and submit their recommendations to the Prime Minister for further action.

    In a major development for the region, the Prime Minister has also approved the establishment of a state-of-the-art hospital in Upper Chitral, which will be implemented within 30 days in coordination with the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (NHSR&C) and the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

    Likewise, the Prime Minister has approved the establishment of a new federally funded university in Chitral, with the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training (FE&PT) tasked to prepare an implementation plan within 45 days in consultation with the provincial government.

    The Prime Minister’s Office has directed all relevant ministries to ensure timely compliance with these directives and to submit progress reports directly to the PMO to ensure transparency and efficiency in the implementation of these development projects.
