    ‘’ Pathak Festival’’………….. BY: Suraya Afzal

     

     

     

    Abu Moinuddin Nasir Khosrow was a great very theologian of Ismailism, well-known poet, and a great literaryof  Persianhe was born in1004A.D in karasan a province of Iran. Beside Holy Quran he had also great command on Old Testament, before assuming his spiritual life he served as a finance secretary in Suljueq Government and enjoyed all luxurious and rejoices of his time. The year of 1045 A.D completely changed his life when he saw  a wonderful dream, according to the sources from his well-known book ‘Safar Nama’,he mentioned that the Holy Prophet (PBUH) appeared to him in a dream and directed him to travel towards west for the salvage of his soul/his inner satisfaction,  so he reached Mecca to perform Hajj after that he reached Cairo where  there was the era of Fatimed caliph at that time, he remained with the Isma’ili Dai Muin din and gain lots of information about Ismaili Muslims Nasir Khosrow remained in the Fatimid Court, after spending some of the time in Fatimid Court and gain lots of information,  guidance and satisfied from the answer of the questions which compels him to travel towards west. NasirKhosrow started preaching Ismailism and moved from country to country. According to traditions Nasir Khosrow also visited Chitral and Gilgit Baltistan region for the purpose of preaching Ismailism. Safar Nama, wajh e Din,Zad e Musaferen are  famous written book of Nasir Khosrow.According to the verbal sources and research  Nasir Khosrow practiced (meditations) in the mountains of Garamchashma (Injigan)  in a cave, and came out on First of February for this the peoples of Garamchashma celebrate this day as festival named (Pathak), peoples wait for this festival a month before and new dresses to be made to wear on this especial occasion ,three days before some of the elder peoples from caliph family called as (patha keen) they visited from door to door to wish good luck for peoples of this festivals and to guide them how to celebrate the event. These path keen can be gifted by lots of local made items like dry fruits, and served with milk made items and local sweet dishes. A day before the festival is called (Samoon) on this day whole vallies are being cleaned and the houses decorated with local decoration pieces made with handmadeitems. Waiting for this festival Pathak all peoples seems to be happy and waiting passionately for the day of Pathak, on the day of Pathak from dawn to dusk visiting each other house and wishing good luck for this bless day flours sprinkle on the shoulder of the visitors and then served with local sweet dishes like shoshpalaki, shoshp, and many other milk made items. Relatives can be given gifts called (Bash), one may seem happy and smile spread on their faces young, old and all aged peoples can be seen in group visiting relatives this day not only being celebrated by Isma’ili peoples but the other community members also participate in this event. All these shows the beauty of diversity ,a love and respect for their Dai,and it also teaches the lesson of peace and mutual harmony exists in the region of Garamchashma.
