NAB KP PLEA BARGAIN OF RS. 39.80 MILLION IN RESPECT OF ACCUSED JAMSHER KHAN

    Chitral Times Report

PESHAWAR: The accused Jamsher Khan and others in connivance with the Government officials / functionaries fraudulently and dishonestly caused a huge financial loss to the public exchequer in the acquisition of land for construction of Ring Road around Peshawar. The Government of Pakhtunkhwa (the then NWFP) planned to construct a Ring Road around Peshawar City which passed through the revenue circles Lala Ahmed and Mahal Saloo besides other villages.

As per details, the acquisition process started in the year 1994 wherein the cost of land in Mahal Lala Ahmed was assessed at the rate of Rs. 5,772/25 per Marla whereas, in Mahal Saloo it was assessed at the rate of Rs. 3,805/50 per Marla. However, the accused persons in connivance and in collaboration with each other delayed the process of acquisition and possession of the land and thus provided an opportunity to the land owners, who entered sham mutations in the revenue record in order to inflate and enhance the rate of the land exorbitantly (i.e. Rs. 219,178.76 per marla and Rs. 130,179.88) and thus they were granted illegal pecuniary advantage. This corrupt practice caused loss to the tune of Rs. 310 million to the public exchequer which resulted in filing of Reference in accountability court.

The legal heirs of the accused submitted application to the Chairman NAB for entering into plea bargain which was accordingly accepted. Consequently, the Accountability Court vide order dated: 09.11.2018 approved the plea bargain for Rs.39.80 being the individual liability of accused Jamsher Khan.
