KP Education Deptt forms inspection committees in all districts after school collapsed incident
PESHAWAR (APP): Following the tragic incident of a school roof collapse in Dir Colony, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Department constituted inspection committees in all districts of the province.
The purpose of establishing these teams is to assess the structural strength of private school buildings, their current condition, and their safety for students and teachers in order to prevent such incidents in the future, says an offical statement here.
Each district committee will be headed by the District Monitoring Officer (EMA), while representatives of the Education Department, Communication and Works (C&W) Department and other nominated members will be part of the committee.
The committees will conduct surveys and on-site inspections of all private school buildings in their respective districts, regardless of whether the buildings are privately owned or rented.
During the inspections, the condition of roofs, ceilings, walls, columns, beams, foundations, staircases and other key structural components will be assessed to identify potential defects and safety hazards.
Following the inspections, school buildings will be classified into three categories such as safe, requiring repairs, and potentially unsafe buildings requiring immediate technical assessment.
The committees will make recommendations for necessary repairs, structural strengthening and rehabilitation of the buildings.
District authorities will be informed about buildings posing an immediate threat, and where necessary, recommendations will be made to suspend their use or restrict access.
All committees will submit their detailed reports and recommendations for necessary corrective measures to the Elementary and Secondary Education Department within three days of issuance of the notification.
