Is our legal system credible?…………………M Ghazi Khan Ozorik

Ironically our system has failed to cherish and recognize the national heroes who have sacrificed their entire life for betterment, service and protection of the country. We as a nation have a very short memory, lake of gratitude and very miser in appreciation.  Shakespeare was an English poet but his poetry became a compulsory part of English literature around the world, where as Alama Iqbal was a better poet and a philosopher but anyone hardly know him outside Pakistan. Gandhi is known a great leader and his examples are given in western university studies but Quaid E Azam is unknown to them. Dr Qadir khan who had given Pakistan liberty by developing atomic bomb but his personal liberty was taken through house arrest for years. Therefore, It isn’t something new to be surprised but it has been the realm of the system where a leader is accepted or rejected and their individual status in the society is set merely based on sect the belong, their beliefs and the amount of wealth they possessed regardless their significant achievement or substantial service to the society. However, the recent special court order of death penalty to Gen Pervaiz Musharaf could be the worst ever written in history. It has absolutely saddened the whole nation in general but has devastated the Chitralies in special. General Musharaf made numerous accomplishments national wide during his short time in power but his service for Chitralies will never be forgotten.

    .

I blame previous corrupt political leadership for all legal and economical misfortune suffered as a nation collectively. However it hasn’t ended yet, a thorough cleansing both in legal and political systems is required to eliminate the troubling elements of 4 decades.   PPP’s and PMLN’s unprofessional, self-crowned privately owned political system hasn’t spared much and haven’t left a single stone unturned to destroy the system to fit their criminal endeavours. During those four decades the corrupt political leadership has emphasized to dilute the legal and political system which can provide a feasible platform to promote corruption, criminal activities and money laundering. Unfortunately they are not only one to blame but whole nation have managed to put their effort alongside and contributed their share through our votes a number of time. Secondly we were divided into Sindhi, Panjabi, Balochi, Pathan and been ruled. While we were busy finding our identity, they managed to disable the system either by terror, price tags, nepotism or simply favouritism of their criminal pals in very single transit points of political and legal systems.

    .

The gradual growth of nepotism weakened the meritocracy which led to a new phenomenon of political and legal system. A rapid growth of favouritism was a slow death to meritocracy which resulted to a system ingrained social inequalities and lake of social justice.

    .

I have skidded from my actual topic which is yesterday woeful order of punishment against Gen Perviaz Musharraf. The special court issuing death penalty order to punish Ex-president Gen Perviaz Musharraf is beyond comprehension.  Nawaz Sharif who submit the petition against General Musharraf was personally corrupt from head to toes.  If not, the court should have access the credibility of the applicant and reject the petition when he was convicted of mega money laundering by the Supreme Court. In an ideal world, it is Nawaz Sharif and Zardari who should be served a severe punishment for their countless crimes but both of them have been let free on health grounds. Freeing Nawaz Sharif and Zardari has made nation dubious about our legal system. It is entirely against our national interest and a deliberate favour of the criminals. Let us be honest, If they mega criminals can be let freed on poor health ground then why don’t we free the entire prisoners who are held in for minor crimes and in worse health conditions.

    .

Therefore, the order against Pervaiz Musharaf is unprecedented order which was never expected from the rule of justice of Pakistan.

I firmly believe, that  a man who always said ‘Pakistan comes First’, guarded national territory like a lion, shielded like a mountain,  looked into enemy’s eyes  like a thunder and fought wars for to protect our country deserve better then been served. At this point of his age he deserved dignity and respect but not a death penalty.  A man of a high calibre, who achieved the rank of a four-star General, became as a Chief of Army staff and served as president of Pakistan should not be living an exiled life after 40 years of services to the nation.  Gen Pervaiz Musharraf deserves honour as a national hero and a reward for his lifelong services. Blaming him perfidious or traitorous would be considered as indirectly calling the whole military establishment. If this isn’t true than do you still want us to believe in our legal system?
