International Volunteers Day 2024 Celebrated in Lower Chitral

    Chitral Times Report

CHITRAL: International Volunteers Day was observed in the jurisdiction of the Aga Khan Regional Council for Lower Chitral, where Ismaili Volunteers came together to demonstrate their ongoing commitment to community well-being and the global volunteer movement. The event was held at the Diamond Jubilee Hall in Garamchashma, with a large number of participants from the community, local leadership, and government officials in attendance.

The celebration was led by the President of the Regional Council for Lower Chitral, the Honorary Secretary of the Regional Council, and representatives from Ismaili Volunteers (IV). These leaders were joined by government officials, highlighting the significance of volunteerism in both local and global contexts.

Several speakers addressed the gathering, underscoring the critical role of volunteerism in addressing community challenges and contributing to sustainable development. They emphasized that volunteering not only allows individuals to contribute to solutions but also fosters a sense of ownership and participation in their community’s growth. Volunteerism, they noted, is a key driver in achieving the global sustainability goals set by the United Nations.

Muhammad Karam, a seasoned volunteer with over 30 years of experience, shared his insights on the transformative power of volunteerism. He highlighted how volunteering empowers individuals to actively engage in tackling development challenges, ultimately transforming the pace and nature of development. “Volunteerism benefits both society and the individual by strengthening trust, solidarity, and reciprocity among communities, while creating meaningful opportunities for participation,” said Karam.

Following the speeches, Ismaili Volunteers put their words into action, visiting the Tehsil Headquarter Hospital in Garamchashma. There, they spent time with patients, offering comfort and support, and provided essential food items to those in need, showcasing the real impact of volunteer efforts on the community.

The event reinforced the idea that volunteerism is not only an individual act but a collective force that contributes significantly to building stronger, more resilient communities. The Aga Khan Regional Council Lower Chitral, through this observance, highlighted the critical role that volunteers play in creating positive change, both locally and globally.
