CHITRAL: Intermittent rains and snowfall has been reported from all parts of the district from Lowari Pass to Baroghil during the last 24 hours during which different parts of the valley have received snow ranging from six inches to one-and-half feet.
The vehicular traffic to distant valleys of Baroghil, Upper Yarkhoon, Terich have been closed due to snow while Shandur Pass, connecting Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan, has been closed for the season.
Due to the snow on the approach road to the Lowari tunnel on Chitral side, the vehicular traffic remained suspended for hours where a number of vehicles slipped off the road but without any casualty.
One of the passengers reaching here from Peshawar, Abdul Ghaffar said that no effort was made by the National Highway Authority to clear the snow from the road in upper reaches of the approach road which made the road highly perilous and slippery for the vehicles.
Meanwhile, the sit-in of the residents of Ayun-II village council entered the fifth day here on Saturday and the protesters braved the snowfall and chilly weather.
They are demanding supply of electricity from the hydro-power station built and run by Sarhad Rural Support Program at Ayun which is denied to them despite availability of 400 kilowatt of electricity.
