    Government making efforts to control cancer and other fatal diseases in the province….Dr. Hisham Inamullah

    Peshawar: Showing solidarity with the patients of deadly cancer, KP Minister for Health, Dr. Hisham Inamullah Khan said on Monday that government was making efforts to control cancer and other fatal diseases in the province. He also stressed on maintaining a healthy lifestyle and to make exercise a daily habit.

    In his video message, the health minister Dr. Hisham Inamullah Khan said that every year around 5 thousand patients of cancer were registered in the province while around 30 thousand patients including new ones get medical treatment in different hospitals of the province. Cancer is the second leading cause of deaths globally and poor patients affect the most as they can’t afford its treatment cost.

    Dr. Hisham said that Imran Khan established ShuakatKhanam Memorial Hospitals in Lahore and Peshawar to ensure free treatment to all poor patients suffering from this painful and deadly illness. KP government also started Cancer Treatment Program to facilitate the patients with free treatment;he said and added that government allocated 1.9 billion so far for the program while pharmaceutical firm granted around 18 billion rupees during seven years.

    Health minister was of the view that patients suffering from breast cancer, blood cancer and other types of the disease are being treated in Hayatabad Medical Complex Peshawar while they also serve 20% to 25% cancer patients from the merged districts.

    Meanwhile addressing a ceremony held in connection with ‘World cancer day’ here at HMC, Peshawar, Secretary Health Dr. FarooqJameel said that cancer is a painful disease and its treatment is also expensive. We all should fight against this disease and to help out the needy patients. He said after Peshawar government plans to extend the program in future to rest of the districts of the province. He said that hazardous gases, smoking and use of Naswar are some of the main reasons for developing cancer; therefore we must avoid bad habits and unhealthy food.

    Secretary Health also visited different units of HMC where he was accompanied by medical director HMC Dr. Shahzad Akbar and Dr. AbidJameel.
