CHITRAL: During the three days of free eye camp held in DHQ hospital Chitral by Ummah Welfare Trust, eye surgery of 170 persons was carried out while 1580 patients were examined in the outpatient department by the team of eye specialists drawn from Hayatabad Medical Complex.
The field officer Iftikhar Ahmed told the media here on Thursday that the free medicines, lenses and glasses were provided to the patients coming from the lower part of Chitral who had turned up in large number as the post of eye specialist in the DHQ hospital was vacant for the last three years continuously.
He said that the doctors continued to carry out surgery of the patients during the nights as well due to the shortage of time against the strength of patients who were required to be operated upon.
Mr. Iftikhar said that two-day free eye camp will also be held at civil hospital Booni situated in the sub-divisional headquarters of Mastuj tehsil on 27th and 28th October.
Meanwhile, the MNA from Chitral Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali has appreciated the initiative of the trust and said that the people of Chitral were in a great trouble because the post of district specialist was vacant for the last three years after the retirement of Dr. Mehboon Hussain.
He said that the government failed to post an eye specialist for a single day since then and the poor people had no option but to lose their eye-sight who did not afford to travel to Peshawar for treatment.
