CHITRAL: The first unit of 36 MW of Golen Gol hydro Power Station will be put to wet test by 23rd of January which will be provided to the areas presently covered by Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (PESCO) with more than 16 thousand consumers.

The project manager of the power project, Engineer Javed Afridi told Chitral Times  here on Sunday that the dry test of the unit has been carried out successfully and it will take about a week to put the machinery of the unit on running.

He said that the power station will be ready for inauguration by the end of the month by the Prime Minister who is expected to inaugurate it.

The MNA from Chitral, Shahzada Iftikharud Din said that the inauguration of the first unit of the power station will solve the severe issue of power outage both in lower and upper parts of the district.

Talking to the local media here on Sunday, he said that on his request, the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had approved 36 MW of the first unit of the power station for electrifying 100 villages of the district two years ago.

He said that for providing electricity to the upper Chitral, the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization is concluding agreement with PESCO as the area was covered by Reshun hydro power station owned by the provincial government and it was washed away by flood in 2105.
