On 16th May, 2021 Prof Dr Mir Kalan Shah passed away early morning at 4 AM after battling with covid-19 for about 34 days, leaving behind all of us.

Prof Dr. Mir Kalan Shah opened his eyes in Khot-which is 124 km way from main district Chitral. He started his primary education from govt primary school Khot under the patronage of his father Rozgar Shah; he was the prominent Alim-e-Deen of his time. It is said that he was the only person of his area who could read and write in Urdu and Arabic as well. Dr Mir Kalan Shah appeared in his Middle class(8th) Examination in Mulkhow , further he did his matriculation from district Chitral. Mir Kalan Shah(Mamu) once told me that due to his academic excellency and geniuses he was awarded scholarship for his matriculation.
After completion of class 10th,he moved to Nowshehra kpk for further education, he completed his graduation (B.A) from Govt Degree College Nowshehra in 1966, he did his Master in Economics in 1978 from University of Peshawar. Just after two months of his degree completion he was hired as a lecturer (Economics) in Agricultural university on the basis of his extraordinary talents and skills. In 1985 he was promoted to Assistant Professor.

He left no stone unturned in achieving the unachievable and he was sent to Europe for his Ph.D in 1990 and he successfully completed his Ph.D. in 1994 from School of Economics and Social Studies, University of East Anglia, Norwich England. He had the honour to teach as a visiting faculty in the said university during and after his Ph.D. Soon after his Ph.D. he was promoted to Associate Professor in 1995, he got promoted to the post of Professor in 1998. He served as Deputy Director planning and Development Studies at Agricultural university Peshawar from 1986-1988. Moreover he was Director in the institute of Development Studies at Agricultural university Peshawar from 1996-2006.
Prof Dr. Mir Kalan Shah was the first Ph.D. from Chitral and, he was in the list of the longest serving officer at bps-21 in all over Pakistan. Besides this he was Convener Board of Studies, Institute of Development Studies, KPK Agri.

In addition he was Member Academic Council, KPK Agri. University, Peshawar, Member Board of studies COMSAT Abbotabad (2009),Convener and member of different committee’s constituted by competent authority. He was also the editor: Associate Editor Sarhad Journal of Agriculture Peshawar (2001-2009).
As for as the languages are concerned he was proficient in English, Urdu, Pashto, German, Arabic and Chitrali. He was HEC approved adviser and supervisor. He had been to nearly all European countries to present his works.
Currently he was serving as Dean Social sciences at Qurtaba University Peshwar and due to busy schedule he relinquished the visiting professor Post at Badshah Khan University charsada.
Prof Dr. Mir Kalan’s only brother Mir Akbr shah is serving as a director in Archive Library Peshawar. He was father of Dr, Saif Ul Mujahid Shah- lecturer at NUML Islambad, Dr Anwar Shah lecturer at Badshah Khan University Charsada and Waqas Shah psychologist Ph.D. in progress.
Socially and morally he was a man of unparalleled charm and beauty. He was kind, down to earth , hospitable, generous, ambitious, sincere, responsible, sophisticated, outspoken, considerate, modest, eloquent, energetic, thoughtful, obliging, sociable, assertive, attentive, outgoing, pleasant, gentle, courteous, punctual, trustworthy, cheerful, easy-going, well-behaved, calm.
May Almighty give him the highest rank in jannah and give patient to his belongings to bear the unbearable loss.
بچھڑا کُچھ اِس ادا سے کہ رُت ہی بدل گئی
اِک شخص سارے شہر کو ویران کر گیا
He left in such a way that the season changed
