Consultations over Governor’s rule in KP held: Governor Kundi
PESHAWAR (APP): Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi here Friday said that consultations have been held over the possible imposition of Governor’s rule in the province.
Speaking to the media in Peshawar, Governor Kundi said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police personnel receive the lowest salaries, adding that the provincial government could not deny them benefits while seeking to bring the police under its control.
He said a former chief minister had also attempted to take similar steps in the past.
“The provincial government wants to turn the police into a Tiger Force,” Governor Faisal Karim Kundi claimed, adding that the government wanted to make appointments to key positions, including the inspector general of police, deputy inspector generals and district police officers, on its own.
“We will stand as a wall against such uncalled for legislation,” he said.
KP Governor said the province was facing corruption, lawlessness and terrorism, adding that the imposition of Governor’s Rule would not be an unconstitutional step.
“Consultations have taken place regarding Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” he said.
Asked about Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) proposed long march, the governor questioned whether the party’s current activities could be described as a long march.
“PTI MNAs and MPAs are sitting in Islamabad and chatting,” he said, claiming that the party had made no preparations for the long march.
Governor Faisal Karim Kundi further claimed that PTI workers were now seeking to avoid the protest and were voluntarily presenting themselves for arrest.
“I think PTI will announce today or tomorrow that it is ending the long march,” he claimed.
