Colorful Opening of Shandur Polo Festival 2026; Laspur Defeats Ghizer 9-0

Shandur/Chitral : The three-day Shandur Polo Festival 2026 got off to a colorful and grand start at Shandur, the world’s highest polo ground. The festival is being organized jointly by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority, the Pakistan Army, and the district administration of Upper Chitral. A large number of local and foreign tourists, along with polo enthusiasts, are attending the event.
Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi was the chief guest at the opening ceremony. He attended the event alongside provincial ministers, the Deputy Speaker of the Provincial Assembly, and other dignitaries. On the occasion, the Governor also distributed trophies and prizes among the players.
In the opening polo match, Laspur (Chitral) delivered an outstanding performance, defeating Ghizer (Gilgit-Baltistan) by 9 goals to nil. Spectators highly appreciated the players’ remarkable display of skill and sportsmanship throughout the match.
In addition to the polo competitions, paragliding shows, children’s tableaux, traditional dances, musical performances, and cultural programs added color and excitement to the festival. The diverse cultural activities provided entertainment and enjoyment for both visitors and tourists.
Participants said that the Shandur Festival not only promotes the traditional sport of polo but also plays a significant role in strengthening cultural harmony, brotherhood, and tourism between Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan. Special arrangements have been made for security, accommodation, and other facilities to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience for visitors throughout the festival.
