Awareness Walk and Cleanliness Drive held in Lower Chitral on Global Ismaili CIVIC Day 2025

CHITRAL: The global Ismaili Muslim Community observed Global Ismaili CIVIC Day on September 28, 2025, with simultaneous activities organized across the world. On this occasion, the Ismaili Council for Lower Chitral arranged a program at Government High School Shoghore, attended by representatives of the government, AKDN, members of the Ismaili Council, volunteers, scouts, and local residents of Shoghore.
An awareness walk was also held from Government High School Shoghore to Awi, along with a road repair and cleanliness campaign. Volunteers, scouts, and a large number of community members actively participated in the activities.

Addressing the gathering at Government High School Shoghore, Mr. Syed Ahmed highlighted the aims and objectives of the Ismaili CIVIC program, emphasizing the need to rise above individual thinking and work collectively to ensure a clean and healthy environment.
SHO Shoghore Police Station, Mr. Adil Ahmed Baig, expressed gratitude to the organizers of the program, appreciated AKDN initiatives, and stressed that according to Islamic teachings, cleanliness should be a collective responsibility in order to create a clean and healthy atmosphere. Similarly, Principal of Government Girls High School, Ms. Kanz Fatima, praised AKDN’s humanitarian services and urged participants to play their part in strengthening such environmentally friendly initiatives for the benefit of future generations.
Ismaili CIVIC is a global program of the Shia Ismaili Muslim Community, which continues its centuries-old tradition of voluntary service by improving the quality of life in the communities where they live, irrespective of faith, gender, or background. It reflects the community’s commitment to civic engagement, responsible citizenship, and the values of service, peace, compassion, and care for the vulnerable, rooted in Islamic teachings.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman of Itarāb for Lower Chitral reiterated that Ismaili CIVIC unites the community globally to work together in voluntary service to humanity and to enhance the quality of life of the societies they live in.
In Pakistan, the Ismaili CIVIC program formally began in 2021. Since then, more than 3.1 million trees have been planted, 120,000 volunteers have contributed over 250,000 service hours, and cleanliness drives at over 300 public sites have collected more than 90,000 kilograms of plastic, waste, and other materials. Alongside tree plantation and cleanliness campaigns, the community also organizes awareness activities to engage and empower youth across the country.
