PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has said that provincial government has launched Khapal Kor Model Housing Scheme through bank home finance to settle the residential problems of government employees and general masses. Under this scheme, he said, low paid government servants and less income general public could also become owners of their own houses on marginal rates. Initially construction of five marlas houses have been started through bank home finance in Jalozai, Mulazai, Jerma and Dheri Zardad, he added. He said 20 thousands government officials and two lakh general people including overseas Pakistanis were being given residential facilities in the first phase costing Rs. 376 billion. “All this financing will be made by commercial banks that will be returned by the allottees in easy installments of 20 years. He expressed the confidence that the housing schemes initiated by his government would not only be timely completed but quality be maintained with having all basic civic facilities of international standards. This he said while addressing the balloting ceremony of plots allotments for government employees in Jalozai Housing scheme Nowshera at Chief Minister House Peshawar. It was attended by Advisor to CM on Housing Dr. Amjad Ali, Secretary Housing Syed Waqar ul Hasan, SMBR Zafar Iqbal, DG Housing, BoK officers and other authorities of housing department. The chief Minister was informed on this occasion that 8626 plots of five marla, seven marla, ten marla and one kanal have been developed in this housing scheme out of which 3757 plots were allotted through first draw some four years back while 3793 plots were being allotted through the fresh draw. He was further told that a total of 4553 applications were received through BoK for this purpose out of which 674 plots were allotted to government employees with a ratio of 23%, 2256 plots allotted to general citizens with 77% ratio while 863 plots were specially allocated for overseas Pakistanis.
Pervez Khattak said that providing basic facilities to the people including residential accommodation was the agenda of his PTI government. He said that his government started serious consideration on developing well equipped housing schemes to address to the residential needs of the people especially the low income government employees. He said that public servants were in fact the pillars of government institutions and the entire government machinery could deliver successfully and satisfy the masses if its officials were satisfied. That was why, he said inclusion of government employees were given priority in all residential schemes. The Chief Minister said that there was shortage of fifty lakh houses in our province that needed huge investment. He said that public sector could not cater this deficiency alone therefore his government was encouraging the private sector in developing housing infrastructure in the province. He regretted that people usually preferred construction of their homes on fertile agriculture lands because of growing gap in demand and supply in housing sector. He said the unplanned housing schemes created problems such as unmanaged roads, water, sanitation, power supply and security.
Pervez Khattak said that provincial government was launching two mega housing schemes of Peshawar Model Town and CPEC city through public private partnership (PPP) to bridge the gap of housing deficiency that would cost Rs. 950 billion. Similarly, he said that satellite town were also being established at district level that would be the most well facilitated cities under comprehensive town planning. He said that provincial housing authority was also working on Hangu Township and Swat Model Town besides construction of a number of commercial malls and apartments in collaboration with the private sector. He said such concrete steps would result into economic growth of the province as well as new job opportunities would be made available for the jobless youth.. Chief Minister said that the present PTI government was pursuing the agenda of change of the system. He said his government was endeavoring to give a system having in-built problems redressal mechanism. He said supremacy of merit, law and justice would be ensured in the system to lead to a balanced and welfare society. He assured that his government besides bringing about change in the system and eradication of corruption would also continue endeavoring for achieving 100% goals of our agenda for development based on prosperity of the masses especially the poor.
