307 dead, 23 injured in climate incidents in last 48 hours in KP: PDMA
PESHAWAR (APP): Due to the rains and flash floods over the past 48 hours, a total of 307 people have lost their lives and 23 injured in climate related various incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) report said among the deceased are 279 men, 15 women, and 13 children, while the injured include 17 men, 4 women, and two children..
A total of 74 houses have been damaged due to the rains and flash floods including 63 houses were partially damaged, while 11 were completely destroyed.
The most affected district is Buner, where 184 people have died so far due to the floods.
These incidents occurred in several districts of the province, including Swat, Buner, Bajaur, Torghar, Mansehra, Shangla, and Battagram, said PDMA report.
The worst-hit districts due to heavy rains and flash floods are Buner, Bajaur, and Battagram.
The current spell of heavy rains is expected to continue intermittently until August 21.
On the special directive of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, relief funds have been released for the districts affected by rains and flash floods.
The Chief Minister has also directed all relevant departments to accelerate relief efforts.
PDMA relief teams and district administrations are in full coordination and closely monitoring the situation.
PDMA had already issued a letter to all district administrations to take precautionary measures in view of the forecasted weather conditions.
PDMA has instructed that relief activities be expedited in all affected districts and immediate assistance be provided to the victims.
All relevant departments have been instructed to deploy all available resources for the restoration of blocked roads and communication routes at tourist spots.
Tourists are advised to stay informed about the weather conditions and take necessary precautions.
The PDMA Emergency Operations Center is fully operational.
