    KP Govt divides Swat into two districts

    PESHAWAR (APP): Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has officially issued a notification for the administrative division of Swat District into two separate districts.

    According to the notification issued by the Board of Revenue, Revenue and Estate Department, Swat District has been divided into Upper Swat District and Swat District, and this decision has taken immediate effect.

    The notification states that the decision was made during the 43rd meeting of the provincial cabinet held on December 19, 2025, and that the step was taken under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Land Revenue Act, 1967.

    The government says the decision was made in the public interest and to ensure better administrative facilities. According to the notification, the headquarters of Upper Swat District will be Matta, and it will include the tehsils of Matta, Bahrain, and Khwaza Khela.

    On the other hand, the headquarters of Swat District has been designated as Gulkada, and it will include the tehsils of Babozai, Kabal, Charbagh, and Barikot.

    Officials say that the division of the district will help improve administrative affairs, ensure the timely provision of public services, and enable effective implementation of development projects. After the formation of the new districts, police, judicial, electoral, and other government institutions will also take steps according to their respective administrative jurisdictions.
