CHITRAL: The judicial enquiry team (JET) probing the uploading of controversial materials in social media last creating unrest and furor among the people across the district jeopardizing its peace and tranquility has given its recommendations as a result of its deliberations that continued for three weeks.
Briefing the local media men about the recommendations of the team after its concluding session, the district police officer Mansoor Aman said that the team consisted of district nazim, deputy commissioner, the representatives of intelligence agencies and police, the religious leaders of both Sunni and Ismaili communities.
He said that the JIT is of the strong conviction based on the opinions of religious leaders of national stature that the materials in question did not entail blasphemy in any way but at the same time it recommended institution of criminal case against the those uploading the materials under Cyber Crimes Act Pakistan.
He said that uploading of certain materials in the social media on the occasion of arrival of the spiritual leader of Ismaili Muslim community Prince Karim Aga Khan last month, had tended to spark communal unrest in Chitral for controlling which a JIT had been formed to examine the nature of the material and determine the responsibility.
Mr. Aman said that to ensure communal harmony in the area, an inter-community harmony council will be formed in the light of the recommendations which will cope with any issue that popped up in future apart from educating the youth to wisely use the social media for which it will devise a strategy and mechanism.
“The formation of cyber crimes control cell to take action against those who upload hate materials in the social media leading to sectarian friction and taking stern action against those who take law in their hands for any act of alleged blasphemy.
In the presence of strong law against blasphemy in the country, no one should be allowed to act on their own and this has been recommended by the JIT”, he said.
Those in attendance included district nazim Maghfirat Shah, MPA Syed Sardar Hussain Shah, Moulana Jamshed Ahmed, Brigadier (retd) Khosh Muhammad Khan, Muhammad Afzal, Saeed Ahmed Khan, Muhammad Hakim advocate and others.
