CHITRAL: In a workshop held by Biyar Local Support Organization, a local support organization of Booni union council, the community based disaster risk management (CBDRM) plan was shared with the stake holders and government officials to make its implementation more effective than ever and remove the bottlenecks with regard to certain areas.
Participated by district disaster management officer, Fidaul Karim, the workshop was widely attended by the office holders of different disaster management organizations including Pakistan Red Crescent Society and volunteers who gave their inputs to make the documents more viable.
Sharing the experience of his organization, the manager of the local support organization, Sher Afzal said that to make the community resilient to the natural disasters was the basic aim of CBDRM in which the local communities have been engaged and involved in all steps ranging from policy making to its implementation in the field in case of catastrophe.
He said that the villages of Reshun, Booni, Sonoghur and Awi faced potential danger of glacial lake outburst floods where stockpiles were being maintained in ample quantity to make their timely availability to the affected apart from creating general awareness among the masses.
Addressing on the occasion, Fidaul Karim said that CDBRM was the most effective and useful tool to mitigate the suffering in a disaster-hit area and he was pleased to see it in place in the most vulnerable which was prone to the natural disasters due to geographical location.
He said that the district administration will contribute to CBDRM plan and ensure their implementation in letter and spirit as it was a fact that a plan having the mass comprehension and participation will meet success of higher degree.
He said that the CBDRM plan prepared by the local support organization should be a model for other such like organizations and it must imitated and replicated by them.
